Discover the story of the Legard family, whose descendants are still alive today and involved in the Loudoun Heritage Farm Museum. The Legards own Glenmore Farm, a Century Farm. A Century Farm is one that has been recognized as continuously operating for 100 years or more by the same family.
You can view the Legard’s first tractor, a 1940 International Harvester Company Farmall H tractor. This model tractor started with gasoline but ran on kerosene. With the purchase of this tractor, the farm was industrialized. The tractor took over the work of horses and the land that was used to feed work animals shifted to livestock grazing or growing crops. The current Legards carry on the family tradition of sustainable agriculture through adaptation to change.
